Talking to and looking at samples from your local tattoo artist is a good way to find good tattoo ideas. The artist may have some ideas that you did not find on the Internet. Look at his samples. Most tattoo artists take pictures of their past work and keep it in a portfolio. Ask to see it and look at the stencils in the shop. If you can’t find the design you are thinking about, have your ideas inked on paper by an artist or someone that at least can draw. By doing this you are setting up the tattoo artist with something original. Make sure that they can do it with the detail, the color, and the expertise you are looking for. A novice artist may not have the skills yet to ink an original idea. Do not be afraid to say no if you feel that the artist isn’t up to your standards. Just politely say that you will think about it, and then find another artist.
