The Many Tattoos of Angelina Jolie

Angelina Jolie, one of the most popular actresses of modern times, is so fond of tattoos that she has over a dozen all over her body. Most people don’t realize Angelina’s love for tattoos since they are covered up when shooting a film. However, each of the Angelina Jolie tattoos represents a special meaning in the actress’s life.

Angelina Jolie Tattoos ImageAngelina Jolie tattoos include everything from geographical coordinates to phrases in several different languages. Perhaps her most well known tattoo, simply due to the location, is the Gothic letter tattoo that runs between her shoulder blades and states “Know Your Rights”. This is a reference to human rights which are incredibly important to Angelina. She and her husband Brad Pitt have spent a significant amount of time working with refugees from around the globe. A tattoo on Angelina’s left shoulder blade is a Buddhist Pali chant that is written in the Cambodian language of Khmer. She had this tattoo done for her son Maddox, who was adopted from Cambodia. The inscription translates to “May your enemies run far away from you. If you acquire riches, may they remain yours always. Your beauty will be that of Apsara. Wherever you may go, many will attend, serve and protect you, surrounding you on all sides”.

Angelina Jolie has several tattoos on her arms, including an Arabic Script Tattoo on her right arm that translates to “Determination”. A tattoo on her left arm indicates the Roman number 13, which she claims to have added simply to show that she has no belief in superstitions. At a later date, she added ‘V MCMXL’ to this particular tattoo. This is believed to be a reference to Winston Churchill’s famous speech on May 13, 1940, where he spoke that “I have nothing to offer but blood, toil, tears and sweat”. Another tattoo on Angelina’s left arm states “A prayer for the wild at heart, kept in cages”, which was inspired from the words of Tennessee Williams. A cross tattoo on Angelina’s stomach has a Latin phrase “Quod me nutrit me destruit”, which translates to “What nourishes me, destroys me”. One of the most interesting Angelina Jolie tattoos is a series of geographical coordinates on her lower back. Each coordinate is a reference to a special location in her life, such as the birth places of her children and the birth place of husband Brad Pitt.
